August 19th: 6:00 – 7:30 pm Central Time Presentation

7:30 – 8:00 pm - Networking, resource sharing, and community building

Presenter: Suzanne E. Oliver, MT-BC, NMT Fellow. Founder and Executive Director of Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona

Description: This presentation will focus on understanding evidence-based practice both within and outside of an evidence-based treatment model (Neurologic Music Therapy).  Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of the evidence-based model of NMT and how to communicate this model to funders and regulators in order to help consumers access treatment.  Additionally, they will be able to make informed decisions about how they communicate the work they do and how they make choices, from objective writing to meaningful work/job positions throughout their careers.

Presenter Bio: Suzanne Oliver is the Founder and Executive Director of Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona (NMTSA), a nonprofit organization that has provided clinical music therapy services to the Phoenix community for over 40 years.  She also founded a school for nonspeaking students with autism, approved through the Arizona Department of Education in 2007; graduating their last class of high school students in December 2019. Suzanne is a Board Certified Music Therapist who received her NMT training in 1999, and a Neurologic Music Therapist Fellow, having completed four Fellowships to date through the Academy. Suzanne has been an NMT Academy Institute faculty since 2015, and is the current Chair of the NMT Academy Advisory Council.  Her passion is to educate music therapists on the Evidence-Based Practice model of NMT, as well as the community on current research regarding the impact of rhythm on the brain and how this knowledge can positively impact the treatment of individuals with neurologic differences and improve their everyday life.

50% of the donations raised through this presentation will be donated to Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona

50% of the donations raised through this presentation will be contributed to the Living Spirit Therapy Services Pay It Forward Campaign to support free or reduced cost music therapy sessions for low income, rural, and minoritized older adults in Minnesota living in private homes.
