United Through Music Camps Through Valley Friendship Club for Individuals with Special Needs

Valley Friendship Club connects children, teens, and young adults with special needs, by fostering new  friendships and celebrating independence.

Group Details

  • Mondays AND Wednesdays
  • August 1st, 3rd, 8th, 10th, 15th, & 17th
  • *Only $75 for all 12 hours due to a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board,thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.*

  • The United Through Music Camps will offer an inclusive and engaging opportunity for people of varying and unique abilities to discover the different, exciting ways to create and use music together. The groups will use music to make new friends, have fun, advocate for themselves, and decrease the anxiety of coming together post COVID.

“Kids Connect” (12 and younger) group 10 – 12 pm: Designed to help families of children with special needs from birth through age 12 connect and get to know each other for support and friendship. This group will provide a fun, playful, and supportive environment to help younger children to feel comfortable making music and interacting together; build new friendships; and to connect and share with one another in a fun, creative, accepting, and supportive way. Sing, play instruments, dance and move to music, explore music, enjoy books set to music, and make new friends through music.

“Teen Up” (13 and up) 1-3 pm: Designed for individuals teen through young adult. Come sing, play instruments, dance, explore music, make new friends through music, and learn more about music and yourselves. We will use the music to guide discussion and share a space to be real and honest about emotions, fears, disappointments, and hopes. The specific music experiences utilized will be adjusted to match participant interests and may include song writing, active music making with various instruments and instrument substitutes, singing, moving, and utilizing different music and technology devices and programs. No music experience or expertise required!
