Megan Lakemacher received her Bachelor of Music in Music Business and Commercial Music at Millikin University in Decatur, IL and her Music Therapy Equivalency from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN. She is currently working at Augsburg on her master’s thesis on the topic of Family-Centered Music Therapy in Pediatric Hospitalization. She worked with multiple grade levels and cultural backgrounds in the special education setting as part of her 1,000-hour music therapy internship training with St. Paul Public Schools in St. Paul, MN, and is especially passionate about working with children as well as their families. Megan is also a member of the American Music Therapy Association and Music Therapy Association of Minnesota.
Before music therapy became her calling, Megan had always had a desire to see people grow and develop in the midst of struggle through the medium of music. Megan spent a year on a missionary team in 2010 where her team developed relationships with youth through music in the United States, Denmark, and Estonia. As a result, Megan spent 4 years as a worship leader in Cottage Grove, MN where she trained musicians and lead the church in corporate worship services. After witnessing how music impacted her brother’s battle with cancer in 2015, Megan realized that she had a passion to see others impacted by the power of music more fully, and began pursuing a degree in music therapy.
Megan is excited to see her passion for person-centered music therapy take root and grow. She has had experience with a wide variety of clients from adults in memory care, children in the hospital, special education, mental health settings, and intergenerational groups. Megan is most passionate about musical experiences transforming and changing the lives of clients. Her desire is to empower clients toward their therapeutic goals by helping foster their personal relationship with music. Therefore, her desire is to see clients thrive in musical experiences through helping them recognize their value and abilities no matter what adversity or difficulties they may find in their lives. Megan is excited to continue to see the power of music unfold in clients through Living Spirit Therapy Services.
