An Experiential Introduction to Music Therapy Applications in Senior Care

Melissa Spiess, M.M., MT-BC, Neurologic Music Therapy Fellow has had extensive experience providing music therapy with seniors throughout the long-term care continuum: independent living, assisted living, day programs, memory care, nursing care, acute medical care, rehabilitation, and hospice care. Though a combination of brief case examples, experientials, and presentation, participants will experience the diversity of applications of music therapy to improve overall quality of life for seniors within physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual needs. Participants will also learn some basic self-care techniques utilizing music that they can use for themselves as care providers to prevent compassion fatigue. Melissa is the owner of Living Spirit Therapy Services, LLC, a private practice in music therapy serving clients throughout the metro area.
