Neurologic Music Therapist, Resource Specialist
Katlyn Hasbrouck is a music therapist who has been involved in the creative arts since she was three years old. When Katlyn entered middle school, she took up playing her mother’s flute and participated in choir. In high school, her passion for music grew exponentially as she participated in choir, band, dance team, and theatre.
Katlyn completed her internship with MusicWorx in San Diego, and earned her Bachelor’s of Music in Music Therapy from Indiana Wesleyan University. Katlyn has clinical experience with a variety of populations including neurodevelopment, behavioral health, hospitals, older adult facilities, classrooms, community wellness and recreational music groups, pulmonary groups, and music lessons. Katlyn loves variety but her passion lies with neurodevelopment, children, and older adults.
Katlyn’s journey to music therapy started her senior year of high school. Her class went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic for a week. Here Katlyn witnessed the power of music as she comforted a toddler experiencing chronic pain. Katlyn shared this experience with her mother, who passed it along to a nurse at an infusion unit. The nurse mentioned music therapy, and ever since then Katlyn has been doing research and studying about the profession. During summers in college, she had the opportunity to be a Personal Care Assistant. This increased her flexibility, adaptability, and empathy extraordinarily. Katlyn’s university invited music therapy students to Zambia for a combined missions and music therapy trip. This experience was an eye-opener, and she plans on going back in the near future!
Katlyn’s mission is to use music in a way that sets individuals up for success; helping to meet their needs and increase self-worth/confidence. She is thrilled to be a part of the Living Spirit Therapy Services team and can’t wait to see how music continues to impact the surrounding community!
